ZESTRON® Cleanliness testing of electronic assemblies

To ensure reliable results and confident interpretations, Polyscience AG partners with ZESTRON to audit your entire cleaning process. This includes employing a wide range of test methods (e.g., optical, chemical, physical) and providing comprehensive technical reports (e.g., image verification) to guarantee maximum transparency and traceability. Additionally, we assess the potential consequences of residual contamination and recommend targeted optimization measures. This is crucial because contamination from the production process—such as flux or particles—can significantly impair the functional reliability of electronic assemblies.

ZESTRON utilizes numerous analytical methods to verify the surface cleanliness of your assemblies. This goes far beyond merely measuring and recording data. ZESTRON experts interpret the results for you and, if any issues are detected, suggest specific corrective actions to resolve them and optimize your process.

Summary of ZESTRON Advantages:

• Proof of surface cleanliness and quality for internal and external ISO audits
• Assurance for warranty claims from customers and suppliers
• Verifiable cleanliness for statistical process control
• Ensured high-quality coating and bonding of your assemblies

ZESTRON® AnalytikumAnalysis method

With its comprehensive, state-of-the-art analytical methods and equipment, ZESTRON guarantees maximum reliability. Through careful and precise analysis, sources of error are identified and targeted measures implemented to eliminate issues and enhance the productivity and quality of your cleaning processes.

The following solutions are available for purity and bath analysis:

• FTIR spectroscopy: spatially-resolved characterization of organic residues on surfaces; identification of materials and substances

• REM/EDX: investigation of the nature and chemical composition of electronic assembly surfaces

• Ionic Contamination Measurement: using contaminometer to determine purity level

Ionenchromatographie: for process validation and risk assessment

• Technical Cleanliness: particle extraction and analysis according to VDA 19 / ISO 16232

• Surface Energy Measurement: via contact angle measurement or ink test to determine bonding and coating potential

Visual inspection: using optical microscopes (up to 80x) or digital microscopes (up to 1000x magnification)

• ZESTRON® Flux Test: detection of flux residues to assess corrosion risk and leakage current

• ZESTRON® Resin Test: detection of resin residues to evaluate bonding and coating potential

• ZESTRON® Coating Layer Test: detection of defects in the protective coating of electronic assemblies

• Qualitative / Quantitative thermal analysis: determination of anions, cations, and weak organic acids

• Surface Resistance Measurement: to ensure signal integrity

• Bath Analysis: for monitoring cleaning and rinsing baths

ZESTRON: bath-quality check

ZESTRON ensures consistently high bath quality throughout the cleaning process, thereby guaranteeing optimal process reliability. Using standardized analysis methods and the bath samples you submit, ZESTRON defines individual monitoring parameters tailored to your specific application. This helps you maximize the cleaner’s bath life while simultaneously reducing your process costs.

ZESTRON offers the following services:

• Free analysis of up to six bath samples using standardized ISO test methods
• Technical reports including monitoring curves and action limits (see below)
• Bath-monitoring parameters specific to your application
• Determination of solids content
• pH measurement (according to DIN 19268)
• Conductivity measurement (according to DIN-EN 27888)
• Concentration determination
• Refractive index measurement (in accordance with DIN 51423)
• Optical inspection
